About
Equine Alliance for Adoption, Rescue and Lifetime  Welfare, EAARLW.org

In 1989 an organization was formed to help racehorses no longer wanted. Most were retired from the track due to injuries. They were sold to dealers who then resold them for work in rural areas. Most were run through livestock auctions, or were shipped for slaughter when processing plants were still operating in the U.S. Since then 5,000 adoptions have been made through their unique work where they remain the lifetime guardian.

Risk in homing and rehoming is another reason for the 20 million horses being slaughtered annually worldwide. Recognizing that finding a home could also put a horse at risk for many different reasons including, lack of experience, questionable intentions, or lifestyle changes, the introduction of "Lifetime Follow-up"  brought a new safety measure to that program. Today there are many adoption and rescue programs, but most do not protect the horses offered for adoption beyond one year, hence at risk.

Today, the majority of unwanted horses are shipped from the U.S. to Canada and Mexico for slaughter. EAARLW.org provides information based on 35 years of experience in adoption from veterinarians, as well as from individuals offering their firsthand experience. It provides ways to help keep horses from being at risk for neglect, abuse, and slaughter. This website will be updated regularly with additional helpful suggestions from screened information shared by the general horse public.
